CONCERT REPORT Alphaville "Miracle Healing" 22 April 2002 Krefeld "Kultur Fabrik" A report by Miriam Before I begin, I would like to emphasize that people experience things differently. This report is just my personal experience of the concert. It was a beautiful warm day, which made the three hours drive from Holland to Krefeld a very pleasant journey. During the trip we of course listened to Alphaville to get in the mood. We listened especially to the "WebSiteStories" project and to the latest "Forever Pop" album, as we hoped to hear some of these songs later at the concert. Wishes come true... The show was sceduled to begin at 20:30. When we arrived at about 19:45 there already was a pretty long row of people waiting to either buy tickets or change their "getgo" vouchers into tickets. While waiting we met some other fans. Doors went open at 20:15. All bags were checked by security guys and camera's were, unfortunately but understandable, not allowed and kept till after the show. So, unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the concert. The venue is a popular "going out" place, a big hall. There wasn't an opening band, just some good 80's songs. In front of the stage it got crowded very soon but still I managed to place myself close to the mic, as I like ;-) The show started right on time and began with "Elevator". I didn't write down the sequence of the songs, because I wanted to concentrate on the show. For as far as I remember I wrote down the songs that were played; see the playlist below this report. I very much like the new tour. It's different. First of all the stage has changed. Instead of the three round screens at the former "Dreamscapes tour" there were now some long strips from the ceiling to the ground at different locations on the stage, some in the back, some in front. On these strips, visual effects were projected and sometimes (during "Carry On Your Flag") pictures of "surten" people - very powerful ! The light effects are much more various. The drumset is more "original", placed on the left side of the stage and drummer Pierson Grange plays great! Guitarist Christian Marsac stands in the middle but walks around too. He plays beautiful solo's and interacts with the crowd in a nice way! Both add a great deal, their part is more "present"; playing more "full" at this tour. Martin Lister is already known for his greatness! Marian's performance is always a joy to see, I mean the way that he expresses the songs ! Marian's voice was/is perfect as always and even better !!! You probably know about the changes of the concert-agency, which means no after-parties anymore after almost every show. This change has two sides. For the fans the after-parties have always been a previlage and a very special experience to meet the band backstage. This is unfortunately not possible anymore. But I also understand that for the band, and especially for Marian's voice it's better not to do this everytime. As so, I think you could truly hear that Marian's voice is in best shape! So, not having after-parties anymore is for a good cause. The crowd was as usually a mix of different ages. Though not everybody knew the songs of the "WebSideStories" project people were very enthusiastic; dancing, clapping, whistling and screaming for more. Compared to the former "Dreamscapes tour", I find the "Miracle Healing tour" maybe a little less energetic but not less good ! I think this has to do with the choice of the songs. The "Dreamscapes tour" had mostly songs from the "Salvation" album, which encludes many very energetic and dancy songs, and some re-arranged songs from the "Forever Young" album. The "Miracle Healing tour" still contains some of these energetic and dancy songs/versions but also from the "WebSiteStories" project and these songs are just different but definately not less suitable for a concert, especially now that these project-songs have been worked out. The sound quality of the show was very, very good ! The show was almost two hours! Claudia, a "moongirl" and a "moonboy" were selling new and nice tour t-shirts. So, I enjoyed this new tour show very much! A BIG thank you goes to Alphaville!!!! Thanx to Angelique Johnston for the pleasant journey and your good company! Thanx of course also to Matthias Bohmer, my dear friend, for a great day! Peter (Delphia, dj Delphi), Frank Wieczorek and Claudia Gerlach; it was so nice seeing you again! Playlist: Re-arranged versions: Big in Japan - "Stark Naked" album version Jerusalem - "Forever Pop" album version, beautiful! Carry On Your Flag - special and powerful! (notice the "super heroes" pictures; projected on the strips) Victory of Love - totally re-arranged; energetic dance version, fantastic!!
